![]() I am quietly playing your recent gift to your grandchild, “Close as a Silent Prayer” each Sunday as we prepare for our ward’s Relief Society hour. It helps console the bereaved and establishes a transition from mourning to the reality that we must move forward with life. I am still uplifted by these words as I write to you, Sally! Thank you for your lovely music. A comforting, spiritual funeral is of great importance. And the melody that He gave to me within my heart is ringing!. The bishop ensures that the sacrament is blessed and passed in a reverent and orderly way. The sacrament table should be prepared before the meeting begins. It should be a sacred time of spiritual renewal. (2) He speaks, and the sound of His voice is so sweet the birds hush their singing. This ordinance is an opportunity for members to direct their thoughts toward the Savior and His sacrifice for them. And the joys we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” And the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.” And He walks with me and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own. It is entitled, “In the Garden.” The first 2 verses are: (1) “I come to the Garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses. include a very old hymn which my parents sang in early 20th century and which appears in hymn books of other denominations. When adding/subtracting hymns toward the creation of a new hymn book, I would love to see our Church Music Dept. In case you’re wondering, the Church music office gets at least two calls a day asking (demanding?) that “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” be put back in this edition. Or maybe, “Can we PLEEEEASE get rid of (Insert Least-Favorite Hymn Title Here).” (On that topic… no way was I going to go that direction! One person’s least favorite is usually someone else’s favorite, and it’s waaaay to easy to be negative instead of positive. With the announcement of a new LDS hymnal (which is probably still some years down the road) I should have made the poll something along the lines of “DON’T YOU DARE REMOVE THIS HYMN FROM THE NEW BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!” If you would like the sheet music for the standard hymn setting of any of the above songs, you can see them, listen to them, print them for free, transpose them, learn your part… whatever your heart desires… here: Hymns at LDS.org. If you want the whole list, here’s my raw data as an Excel file (.ods actually… I’m cheap like that). I'm only doing this to highlight the ridiculous policy. So there you have it. I know the administration won't do anything to the students, and I certainly won't penalize them in my class. ![]() I also want to mention that I have no intention of actually penalizing students for having their scriptures with them in class. I'm being very careful to follow the guidance from AG Reyes and our school board, and I think by taking it to this extreme it may shed light on how ridiculous this policy is. It will be extremely difficult to fire me if anyone ends up trying to do so because of this. I'll mention that my job is protected by tenure and I am a member of our teacher's union. If you have any examples of graphic depictions of sexual violence, rape, incest, sodomy, or any stories in the LDS canon that seem to meet AG Reyes' definition of pornography, would you please comment them below? I will compile the list to use as justification when I send students to the principal's office for having their LDS scriptures (AKA "pornography") in class. I believe there are much more graphic depictions of pornography in the LDS scriptures than in some of these banned books, and I would like to compile a list of pornographic stories from the Bible, Book of Mormon, D&C, and any other examples I can find from LDS canon. I'm contemplating some malicious compliance for when school starts, and I would like some help as I prepare. ![]() This is where he provides the framework to be used to classify literature as pornographic or not (PDF download warning): You can read the memo from Utah AG Sean Reyes here. If the Utah AG is going to classify these books as pornography, he is setting the bar EXTREMELY LOW for what actually constitutes pornography. I researched several of them, and it seems that this list labels many LGBTQ+ books as pornographic simply because of their discussion of LGBTQ+ issues. This article also lists the books that were banned, if anyone is interested. ![]() You can read the Trib's article about it here: All teachers were emailed a list of books last month and asked to remove them from our classes before students come back to school. ![]() I am a teacher in a Utah school district that recently banned several dozen books for being pornographic. ![]()
